Deutzia

This fantastic shrub is generally under-utilized in the landscape. Virtually disease and pest free, it blooms in late May-early June which is a time when not many other shrubs are blooming. It also has a very significant bloom that covers the shrubs creating quite a statement. It will tolerate part sun to full sun with the best flowering in full sun.

Deutzia gracilis – this shrub is almost 40 years old!

Deutzia gracilis – the traditional white flowers cover this shrub with graceful arching branches and will grow to be 3-4′ tall and wide. The photo above is one that we have had planted at the nursery for almost 40 years with no problems. It is very often commented upon when it is in full bloom as it is quite striking.

Deutzia ‘Creme Fraiche’

‘Creme Fraiche’ – this variety has a variegated leaves with a green center and white margins adding extra interest even after blooming. It gets a little smaller, 2-3′ tall and wide.

Deutzia ‘Yuki Cherry Blossom’

‘Yuki Cherry Blossom’ – this is an even shorter variety that only gets 1-2′ tall and wide with a beautiful pink flower. This is great for a mass planting or ground cover and also gets great burgundy-purple fall foliage.

Deutzia ‘Nikko Blush’

‘Nikko Blush’ – another beautiful pink variety, this one will have a similar size to the Deutzia gracilis, getting 3-4′ tall and wide. It also has great burgundy fall color.
